Ruaridh Purse - Linguistics PhD Candidate

Hello! My name is Ruaridh (['ɹu.ɹi]) Purse, and I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Phonetics at the University of Michigan, where I work with Jelena Krivokapić and Pam Beddor.

I received my PhD in Linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania, where my advisor was Meredith Tamminga, and I was closely affiliated with both the Variation & Cognition and Phonetics labs.

I specialise in Phonetics, Phonology and Sociolinguistics. In particular, I am interested in the Phonetics-Phonology interface and using articulatory methods to investigate the properties of categoricity and gradience in variable lenition phenomena.

I am Scottish, having grown up near Glasgow and studied at the University of Edinburgh. When I'm not doing linguistics, I spend most of my time eating good food and playing musical instruments.
