About Me
Hello! My name is Ruaridh (['ɹu.ɹi]) Purse, and I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Phonetics at the University of Michigan, where I work with Pam Beddor and Jelena Krivokapić.
I use articulatory evidence to uncover structure in variable speech production beyond what is directly accessible from the acoustic signal, and to examine how listeners interpret and respond to systematic articulatory-acoustic mismatches.
I received my PhD in Linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania, where my advisor was Meredith Tamminga, and I was closely affiliated with both the Variation & Cognition and Phonetics labs.
I am Scottish, having grown up near Glasgow and studied at the University of Edinburgh. When I'm not doing linguistics, I like to play musical instruments and eat good food.
